The Age of Anti-Intellectualism in the Christian Church
I have observed a rise in Christians treating theology with disregard under the guise of having a personal relationship with Jesus. How can you have an intimate relationship with one you do not know intimately? I love my brethren but such a notion of knowing Jesus without a theological understanding of Him is utterly absurd. It’s akin to being married to a person but not striving to learn their deepest thoughts. The pursuit of theology is the pursuit of God’s own heart and the Mind of Christ. Such is a pursuit we must pursue with unceasing diligence.
“And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”
How, therefore, can one accomplish this if one’s mind is not involved? I tell you that it is not possible. Let us be good stewards of the intellects we have been blessed with and use them to glorify God. Let us show the world a “wise and understanding” people. Soli Deo Gloria!
“Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”
